Checking Your Wiper Blades | GIC Car Clinic

When driving your car, your eyes are focused on what’s going on in front of you. If your windshield is dirty or smeared, you won’t be able to see clearly and could get into an accident. Your windshield wipers are important as they keep your windshield clear of dirt, debris, rain and snow. If your windshield wipers are not in good shape, then your windshield won’t be either. We here at GIC Car Clinic in San Jose, California suggest that you change them yearly and at least check them every six months.

Some signs that you need new windshield wipers are: skipping, streaking, chattering and squeaking sounds as well as the failure to clear the windshield of rain or snow. When checking your wipers you should also check the condition of the wiper blades. If the look ragged, torn or rounded, you should replace them immediately.

You can take better care of your windshield wipers by: not using them to clear the ice form your windshield in the winter time, cleaning your windshield when you fill up your gas and by cleaning the wiper blade itself with an alcohol pad to keep it free of dirt and debris.

Consult your owner’s manual to find out what type of wipers you need. It will tell you the size but you have many options when it comes to brand. Many manufacturers say that they have the best wiper around but you will have to find out for yourself. Trust in your friends and ask them what brand they use or just give us a call at GIC Car Clinic and we will gladly tell you what kind you should use for your car.
