What Is a Starter?
A starter is a small, high torque electric motor attached to your engine’s flywheel and used to start your vehicle using battery power. When you turn the key, an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid which then ejects a small gear that meshes with the flywheel and, as this gear spins against the flywheel teeth, your vehicle’s engine turns over and the ignition system acts with the fuel system to start your car. A starter can fail in many ways; the solenoid can fail, the electrical wiring or gear can be damaged, the starter can be shorted out or the starter motor itself could become faulty.
